Community Design & Park Activation Events

Designing the park

In September 2017, Link2Lake was awarded our first Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to lead a community design process for improvements at Be’er Sheva Park - the “lake” end of “Link2Lake.”  We facilitated a robust community engagement process that involved three community design meetings and at least three other informal outreach events, where over 200 people were in attendance. Additionally, a survey was conducted to allow the community to provide input in which we received 210 responses. Our landscape architecture firm, Site Workshop, was tasked with combining the community’s ideas into a coherent, inclusive design for the park - including exercise equipment, an outdoor stage and an improved waterfront.

Community mural @ Be’er SHeva

In 2021 amidst the Covid pandemic, RBL2L partnered with students and artists with the Art of Resistance and Resilience @ Franklin HS and Rainier Beach Action Coalition’s YATTA’s (young adults transitioning to adulthood) to create a community focused and designed mural at Be'er Sheva’s Public Restroom.
Artists and young people were paid and spent months gathering community input to create the final mural design. These incredible artists painted during the 2021 HEAT WAVE, along with community members who had opportunities to leave their mark on the mural.
We ended the HOT week with a covid-safe PARTY at the park.

rainier beach grill off! who will the next grillmaster be?

Our favorite event! The 1st annual competition for the Rainier Beach Grillmaster was a BLAST in 2019, and after a 2-year Covid Hiatus we held another in August 2022.
Free for anyone to compete, local judges blind taste test to award the top 3 winners. It is a party for the WHOLE community.
We can’t wait for the third annual in 2023!
