Recreating Henderson Street Project

In 2016, stakeholders from several community organizations in the Rainier Beach neighborhood began discussions about an improved connection between the Rainier Beach Light Rail Station & Lake Washington, a.k.a. Link2Lake. This vision was articulated in the 2012 update to Rainier Beach’s Neighborhood Plan, and has achieved several big milestones, including upcoming renovations at Be’er Sheva Park.
The Rainier Beach Recreating Henderson Street Corridor Project is the next community project planned in Link2Lakes’ scope.  In Spring 2023, Rainier Beach Action Coalition engaged with residents, students, business and property owners, organizations, artists and government entities to gather ideas and input for creating a safe and culturally vibrant corridor along Henderson Street.  This culminated in a report and a detailed visual of community and stakeholder priorities for South Henderson Street(the Henderson Corridor) in the Rainier Beach neighborhood.
This same year, Link2Lake received a Planning for Recreation Access grant from Washington State’s Recreation and Conservation Office to activate the Henderson Street Corridor by identifying and improving neighborhood recreational opportunities, with the support and input of the local residents. This project will support a Design Team to work closely with the Rainier Beach community and key stakeholders to build upon the RB Neighborhood Plan and the community report to create a street design concept plan with schematic designs for 2-3 priority sections of the Henderson Street Corridor. Rainier Beach Action Coalition is leading this project and community design sessions slated for 2024.
